Blog Symbolism

Yes, I have changed my banner yet again. However this time I thought I would take the opportunity though to explain some of the symbolism I have incorporated into it.

I incorporate symbolism into a lot of my stuff without explanation – usually on the basis that those who need to get it, will get it, even if those who don’t, won’t. You see, I consider symbolism to be an important part of contextualisation given how much of communication is non-verbal. And in occult circles, well, it’s extra important. Anyway, I have finally decided to give my evangelical readers a break and spell some of it out.

Firstly I should explain the colour symbolism. I’ve been tempted at times to go for green (with it’s overtones of growth and life) and purple (with it’s overtones of mystical connection), but I have decided after some deliberation to carry across the orange theme from my old meditation blog, ekstasis.

Why orange?

Orange is a vibrant colour. It’s a combination of red and yellow so it shares some common attributes with those colours – the vitality of red and the intelligence of yellow. It denotes energy, warmth, and the sun. But orange has a bit less intensity and aggression than red, calmed by the cheerfulness of yellow. Orange is the colour of mental agility, eloquence and speech, health, ambition, personal creativity.

I read in one reference, “In keeping with its transitional appearance in nature, you might use shades of orange to indicate transition or a bridge between two opposing factors.”

That sorta goes with the liminal emphasis of this blog.

As for the more over symbolism in the banner, well I’m still going to leave that to you guys to figure out for yourselves.
