It could be said that that is the inevitable legacy of the systematic rape and plunder of the Congo by King Leopold of Belgium. Which was a classic example of bringing Christian “civilization” to the “heathen savages”.
Given the teachings of Jesus, which affirmed an upside-down view of power, any attempt to wed Christianity to state power is inevitably a step backwards.
I like this image – who is it by? And is it copyright? I would like to use it on a Christmas card for my friends. I once worked in Zaire / DR Congo and made a trip back there earlier this year. Thanks.
Typing from a phone at the moment but if memory serves me right I never managed to track down the artist for that image, which is unfortunate as it's one of my favourites also. I can't provide advice on copyright though, sorry.
