do not feed the fears 2We live in very fearful times. In an interview with Bob Woodward and Robert Costa in 2016, Donald  Trump said, “Real power is — I don’t even want to use the word — fear.” Obviously his trust in the power of fear was well founded as he went on to win the presidency.

Yet the scriptures urge us to NOT fear the things of this world. In the book of Joshua there is a repeated refrain: be strong and courageous. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” These words of encouragement are echoed by Paul in his first letter to the  Corinthians, “be courageous; be strong.” And we are repeated urged, “Do not be afraid,” throughout the Old and New Testament, more times than easily counted.

Fear of the world is the opposite of faith in God. Do not feed the fears.
