In searching the web for Christian Art, every now and again I have come across pictures of Jesus depicted as a woman.
A woman? Yes! Take for instance, Passion of a Goddess.
The artist writes, "The owner of this site would like to develop the idea that giving God a sex is not honest. These believer of the idea that God can only be represented as a man, disregard the female half of the worlds population. And also its in his belief that a woman has greater ability to give love than a man. Christ represents the great love."
Now … is this just feminazi rantings?
Orrrr … something just masquerading as that?
Take a look at some of the other images and you be the judge.
Love? Are we talking about agape or eros do you think?
The ‘pay to view’ aspect makes me think it’s “orrrr… something else”.

I agree that the paid membership aspect and the way that these particular women are displayed leads one to think that this site is playing on the erotic (though a linking of sacred and erotic does not necessarily have to be lascivious). But the idea of Christa (Christ as female) has a broader academic and artistic background than a look at this site might suggest.

Linzc, you’re right that there’s more to this than that one site suggests. I actually have many more female Christ images that I may roll out in the future. Though even the less erotic ones represent a significant challenge to incarnational teaching I reckon.
