Palms Up / Palms Down Meditation

David Berry has been blogging on his “palms up / palms down” meditation experiences at DB on DB. David comments:

“Meditation is pretty new to me being from Australia… mysticism is not well known and certainly never touched me… I attended conservative churches so the Christian form was never introduced and to be honest.”

I’d suggest that the unfamiliarity with meditation had more to do with the conservative upbringing than being an Australian, as the shelves of mainstream bookshops in most Australian suburban centres are sagging with DIY meditation guides. I was first introduced to it in school as a kid, so it’s not a recent import, at least amongst certain segments of our society.

Be that as it may, I was interested in David’s account of how he’s integrated the “palms up / palms down” meditation into a conventional Christian worship context. I may give that a go myself.

Hi Matt, thanks for visiting the blog. Just to put the comment in more context I was thinking about the difference between Asia and Australia as far this type of practice goes. I find it more commonplace here than I did back in Oz but you are correct in that I am from a conservative background. Good luck with the palms up/palms down.
