Curious Christian

I think it is helpful to be reminded that Christian leaders of the Second Great Awakening like Charles Finney and Jonathan Blan­chard explicitly linked religious revival and social justice in their preaching, sometimes in very strong terms. For example:

When the church fails to speak out on such issues, Finney wrote, “She is perjured, and the Spirit of God departs from her.”

We can sometime forget that the call for a more holistic gospel is nothing new. Many movers and shakers within our Christian heritage called for the same thing.
