Reflections on culture, nature, and spirituality from a Christian perspective

Spirituality according to Google

I was browsing Goodle trends last night and thought you might find this interesting. Firstly, that Google stats show interest in spirituality has been steadily decreasing for years.

Yet the Google stats also indicate interest in God is steady if not increasing.

What does this suggest to you, particularly in terms of mission?

Interesting, especially since the popular idea is that postmodern people are more interested in spirituality, not really in god… don’t know what to make of it yet.

    Three related thoughts.
    1. That ‘Spirituality’ is a longer word than ‘God’?
    2. That as Spirituality is increasingly conceptualized it becomes the preserve of ‘experts’ who have command over a language which people feel they need to buy into. It’s this ‘buying into’ that people are reacting against, be it the dominant religion or simply an idea?
    3. That as the baggage associated with the ‘God’ concept is lost, it becomes more enticing?
But I definitely think you’re onto something using the stats from Google – far more revealing than those from academic research, as they reference genuine and private searches.

I have been getting the vib that enui has set in for many of the spiritual but not religious crowd. Low commitment spirituality is easily opted into but just as easily opted out of. Could be suggestive.
