Here Jesus works not only by speaking but also by being silent, and anyone who follows him in this can learn from his silence, for it is a meaningful silence, like God’s.

[This] does not at all constitute a limitation of his Word but is rather a dimension of this Word that cannot be detected by human ears.

This is contained in the paradox that Paul demands of us: that we are to “understand the love that surpasses all understanding” (Eph 3:19).
