It’s interesting, and a bit tragic, how the current abortion debate—both within our church and in society—often ends up casting women and children as if they’re on opposing sides. The conversation becomes about rights: the mother’s right to choose versus the foetus’s right to live. But what might be a more Christlike perspective? Instead of framing it around rights, what if we centered it around responsibility? The responsibility we all share, as a community, to care for the most vulnerable among us, whether that’s the mother or the child. It feels like that shift could lead to a more compassionate and holistic approach.
