Reflections on culture, nature, and spirituality from a Christian perspective

When I hear the phrase “Christian Nationalism” I am sometimes reminded of this image. It’s a photomontage by John Heartfield, a well-known anti-Nazi artist, satirically criticizing the Nazi co-option of Christianity.

The German text translates to:

Top text:

“For the founding of the German State Church”

Small text under the title:

“The Catholic Adolf Hitler organized the Evangelical German State Church and appointed a Reich Bishop”

Bottom text:

“The cross was not yet heavy enough”
