Curious Christian

I have long been drawn to this illustration from The Libro de los Juegos (13th century CE), which depicts a Muslim and a Christian facing each other across a chessboard. As an avid chess fan, I find it fascinating to consider the long history of the game, and the suggestion that Muslim and Christians did at times engage in more friendly contests.
