Exploring life, art, spirituality, and the way of Jesus

I find that one of the consequences of neglecting eschatology is the persistence of false expectations about God and about how the wrongs of this world will be made right.

People pray, and when their prayers aren’t immediately answered, they conclude that God is either unable or unwilling to do anything. This is unfortunate, because God has already shown that he is able to do anything—raising even the dead—and willing to do anything to save us—even to the point of allowing his Son to sacrifice himself for us.

The problem is timing.

People expect God to act immediately, whereas the prophets have always maintained that some things must play out first. As the prophet Habakkuk writes, “Though the vision lingers, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay” (Habakkuk 2:3).

Waiting can be hard. But we will not have to wait forever.
