Last night, I was reading the opening of Luke’s gospel – the familiar Christmas story – and found myself meditating on how much we filter these ancient texts through our modern, westernized perspectives. As I read, I began visualizing the countless ways Christians throughout history, across diverse cultures and continents, have approached and understood this same gospel. I imagined these perspectives interwoven, colliding in a post-modern style that fed my unconscious mind as I drifted into dreamscapes.
In this state, I experienced the story in new and surprising ways that I’m still processing. I’ve tried to capture some of these impressions visually, though my skills in visual art are still developing. Despite that, I hope these reflections stir your imagination as well. I’m calling this work Christmas Dreaming.
