Reflections on culture, nature, and spirituality from a Christian perspective

I was just reading that a new Gay and Lesbian Christian Network has been formed to coincide with the visit of Pope Benedict to Australia for World Youth Day. Apparently they held their first forum on Sunday at Pitt St Uniting Church in Sydney. I wonder if they will be joining Pope Alice for the gay KISS-IN protest planned for Saturday. I suspect they won’t go that far.  Interesting that most Aussie Christians seem to be adopting a ho hum approach and aren’t even responding. What  do you make of all this?

Postscript: Religion News Blog has reported that Raelian Lesbians have had a go now. “A group of glamour lesbians who believe the world was created by an alien civilisation 25,000 years ago have criticised the Catholic Church for being out of touch.” The irony was lost on them obviously.

You Aussies seem to be doing some good protesting, by the news reports.
When John Paul II was in Toronto a few years ago, it was just celebrity-fest. No one protested. It was an ego trip for the city to host it.
I braved a brutal rainstorm, standing in a muddy field to see JP II. With Ratzinger, since his ‘spontaneous’ manipulation to apologize for pedophile priests in the U.S., and meet with victims THREE years after becoming pope, I really don’t have much respect for the man. Now he’s on to a ‘green’ message. Ho hum.

Could you point me to some of the oversea news reports you mention? Nothing has been reported locally in terms of Christian reponses to Pope Alice and co. From where I sit it seems the Catholics are too preoccupied with other things and the Protestants and Orthodox are just quietly taking a back seat for the duration. If something else is happening on the gay and lesbian front we are not hearing of it.

Hmmm, speaking of stunts I wonder if The Chaser have anything planned? I imagine they would view this as too good an opportunity to miss. Maybe a fake Papal motorcade? Nah, been done.
