Fundamentalist often refer to themselves as biblical “literalists”. Yet there is one saying in the Bible that they steadfastly refuse to interpret literally: love your enemies.
So I say, the problem with fundamentalists is not that they’re always too literal, it’s that they’re often not literal enough.
I was conversing with my cousin on that one a little while ago and he said that yes, he loves his enemy, but while he is killing him. Guess where he got that one from?
He was also adamant that Jesus would bomb other countries as well. He also says using the old pagan argument that why should the government protect Christians if they are not going to serve their own country by joining the army or voting, etc,? Not that he has joined the army, though.
