The scriptures often show that when God acts or speaks, whether through the Messiah or His messengers—the reaction is frequently one of surprise, wonder, and amazement.
In the Gospel of Matthew, we read that the crowds listening to Jesus “were astonished at his teaching,” as his words defied their expectations and challenged their understanding. In Luke’s Gospel, it says that after one of Jesus’ profound answers, people were so taken aback that “they became silent.” And in Acts, those traveling with Saul were left standing speechless after encountering the divine in a way they never saw coming.
What strikes me is how consistently God shows up in unexpected ways. Time and again, He defies human assumptions, breaking into the ordinary with something extraordinary. It’s a reminder to remain open and attentive, to expect the unexpected. With God, surprise seems to be part of the plan.
