Liturgy for Lost Pets

Robert Stiefe has published a liturgy for the loss of a pet or other animal which I thought would be worthwhile looking at a bit closer. As Robert says:

All living creatures share the same source of life and are equally subject to death. The very love we have for each other in the risen Christ is extended as a ministry of stewardship and a gift of love to the pets and animals who abide with us as fellow creatures and companions. Therefore, it is appropriate for Christians to come together in worship at the loss, whether by death or disappearance, of a pet or other animal entrusted to their charge and care.

On his trip over to Australia recently Steve Taylor raised an interesting question about offering communion to animals after an interesting incident in his church. I am not really sure of the answer to that one but it certainly gets me thinking. Anyway, irrespective of that, I was thinking some of the prayers Robert includes in this litergy could be adapted for more general purpose healing prayers.
