Reflections on culture, nature, and spirituality from a Christian perspective

So, who’s finished it yet? I am busting to speak with other’s about the Deathly Hallows. I thought it was an awesome finale. I don’t want to ruin it for anyone though, so only click through if your up for some spoilers.

So, where to start, hmm. I had anticipated the redemption of Snape after the finale of Half Blood Prince. And I just knew that Harry Potter was the seventh  horcrux. It seemed relatively obvious that Harry was being set up for a climax of self sacrifice.

But how differently it turned out anyway. What I had expected was some sort of suicidal climax. What I had anticipating was that Harry would kill himself to kill Voldemort.  What I didn’t see coming was his passive death walk whilst Nagini, the great snake, the sixth horcrux, remained alive, while all still seemed hopeless. What I didn’t see coming was Harry’s resurrection and his return.

Whoa, and so many gate keepers had been condemning Harry Potter as pure Witchcraft. My goodness, I don’t think I’ve seen a fantasy book more oozing with veiled Messianism since Lord of the Rings. Dumbledore says to Harry: “You are the true master of death, because the true master does not seek to run away from Death. He accepts that he must die, and understands that there far far, far worse things in the world than dying.” Deep magic indeed.

I finished it within 24 hours.
It fulfilled some of my expectations — that Harry and Ginny would marry and live happily ever after was on the cards from Book 2, and Ron and Hermione from Book 4.
Snape turned out as I thought he would too. And that Neville Longbottom would do something significant was also to be expected.
I’m not rereading Order of the Phoenix. It was the one I liked least.

Yeah, I wasn’t so fussed on Order of the Phoenix as a book, but I did like the movie.
