Curious Christian

Reflections on culture, nature, and spirituality from a Christian perspective

With the Metallica concert only a few hours away, here’s an account of the exodus story, Metallica style.

Slaves
Hebrews born to serve, to the pharaoh
Heed
To his every word, live in fear
Faith
Of the unknown one, the deliverer
Wait
Something must be done, four hundred years

So let it be written
So let it be done
I’m sent here by the chosen one
So let it be written
So let it be done
To kill the first born pharaoh’s son
I’m creeping death

Now
Let my people go, land of Chosen
Go
I will be with thee, bush of fire
Blood
Running red and strong down the Nile
Plague
Darkness three days long, hail to fire

So let it be written
So let it be done
I’m sent here by the chosen one
So let it be written
So let it be done
To kill the first born pharaoh’s son
I’m creeping death

Die by my hand
I creep across the land
Killing first-born man
Die by my hand
I creep across the land
Killing first-born man

I
Rule the midnight air, the destroyer
Born
I shall soon be there, deadly mass
I
Creep the steps and floor, final darkness
Blood
Lamb blood painted door, I shall pass

So let it be written
So let it be done
I’m sent here by the chosen one
So let it be written
So let it be done
To kill the first born pharaoh’s son
I’m creeping death

I love this song. It has something of the shock and anger and sheer horror of the Exodus that most tellings of the story simply miss.

    Yeah, good call
    All you Zombies lyrics
    Holy Moses met the Pharaoh
yeah he tried to set him straight.
    looked him in the eye:
    let my people go.
    Holy Moses on the mountain
    high above the golden calf
went to get the ten Commandment
she’s just gonna break them in half.
All you zombies hide your faces
all you people in the street
all you sittin’ in high places
the pieces gonna fall on you.
No one ever spoke to Noah
    they all laughed at him instead;
    Working on his ark
    working all by himself.
    Only Noah saw it coming
    forty days and forty nights.
Took his sons and daughters with him
    they were the Isrealites!
All you zombies hide your faces
all you people in the street
all you sittin’ in high places
the pieces gonna fall on you.
    Holy Father, what’s the matter?
Where have all your children gone?
Sittin’ in the dark, living all by themselves
you don’t have to hide anymore!
All you zombies show your faces
all you people in the street
all you sittin’ in high places
the pieces gonna fall on you.
All you zombies show your faces
all you people in the street
all you sittin’ in high places
the pieces gonna fall on you.
