Jesus Christ Visits The Americas

“Jesus Christ Visits The Americas” by John Scott, 1969

In case the Mesoamerican pyramid in the background doesn’t immediately give it away, this illustration by artist John Scott is not one you can expect to find mirrored in the New Testament.

That’s because it comes from the Book of Mormon, a sacred text unique to Mormonism, or as it is also known, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I find this image of Jesus descending to the ancient Americas (immediately after his ascention in Israel) to be a powerful illustration of just how different Mormonism is from traditional Christianity (and by that I mean Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant). Not only do Mormons reject Trintarian understandings of God, Mormans also significantly expand on the witness of the New Testament apostles and Old Testament prophets by adding their own alternate history.

Trinitarian – That the Father is a distinct divine Person, distinct from the Son and the Holy Spirit. That Jesus Christ was truly God, and yet was a Person distinct from the Father and the Holy Spirit.
Next time someone asks you about Mormonism send them to the missionaries; they will explain it.

what’s great about the mormons is that when you take away the presuppositions that are drilled into Christians for 500 years and the pride that makes being right override common sense, and just ask real logical questions about God and the Bible and Jesus, THEIR answers just make sense! You don’t really have to suspend belief or claim that a basic understanding of God and Jesus are “a mystery that we can’t understand” And they answer questions like what is baptism for the dead spoke of by Paul and how does that work? Everybody else just spouts nonsense when asked about it as though Paul didn’t mention it. And if you read in Spanish or any other Latin language, the Bible(Paul) says there will be an apostacia….. but everyone else acts like that doesn’t exist either!? It’s good to find someone who can just answer questions! Like what about the war in heaven in revelations and “Jesus preaching the gospel” to spirits who were dead?! Nobody else seems to have the answers to those questions!
