Reflections on culture, nature, and spirituality from a Christian perspective

Lately, I seem to have become a magnet for insults from certain self-proclaimed Christians. I say “self-proclaimed” because their behavior suggests they may have skipped a few key sections of the Sermon on the Mount. The pattern is usually the same—I gently (or, let’s be honest, sometimes not-so-gently) try to steer the conversation away from the gospel of Trump and back to, well, the actual Gospel. This tends to go over about as well as a sermon on patience at a fast-food drive-thru.

But here’s the thing: I take comfort in knowing I’m in good company. Jesus himself wasn’t exactly winning popularity contests with the religious crowd of his day either. And as 1 Peter 4:14 reminds me, “If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.” So, if getting called names for pointing people toward Jesus means I’m on the right track, I’ll take the blessing—though I wouldn’t mind if it occasionally came with a little less verbal abuse.
