Hidden Mysteries

To what extent is the esoteric Christianity reconcilable with the evangelical Christianity? To what extent is that which is beyond words reconcilable with the authority of the Word? To what extent is the wisdom of the biblical Jesus hidden and mysterious?

Here’s a few verses I have been meditating on:

At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.
Matthew 11:25 / Luke 10:21

The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
Matthew 13:44

For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open.
Mark 4:22

But they did not understand what this meant. It was hidden from them, so that they did not grasp it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.
Luke 9:45

No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead he puts it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light.
Luke 11:33

Now to him who is able to establish you by my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past,
Romans 16:25

No, we speak of God’s secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.
1 Corinthians 2:7

Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men’s hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God.
1 Corinthians 4:5

My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Colossians 2:2-3

For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
Colossians 3:3

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it.
Revelation 2:17

One response to “Hidden Mysteries”

Also studying these passages, and it is indeed fascinating.
    Luke 9:43-45.
First He tells them “let these words sink down into your ears,” then it tells us that the saying was ‘hidden from them.’
Of course we know that the subject-free verb points to God doing the hiding, which brings up several interesting questions.
    1) Why is God hiding this from them?
    2) Who does He continue to hide it from?
    3) If the purpose of God in predestination is His own glory (Eph 1:5-6; Rom 9:22-23), what is the purpose of God is temporarily hiding truth from some of His followers sometimes?
    4) What parallels of this can be found in the Bible (e.g. Hebrews 6:3 etc)?
