Reflections on culture, nature, and spirituality from a Christian perspective

Bannished to the Delta Quadrant

Well it seems my Star Trek Guide to Christianity has struck a raw nerve amongst the Sydney Anglican hierachy. In this months issue of Southern Cross Magazine they’ve had another go at the emerging church, this time citing my article as evidence of our terminal decent into heresy. Archbishop Jensen is quoted as saying, “They characterize real Christians as Vulcans but I fail to see the humour in that.”

Does this strike anybody else as a very Vulcan kind of thing to say?

Well, Matt…hmmm…the good Archbishop said: “They characterize real Christians as Vulcans but I fail to see the humour in that.” I would reply: “That was the point, exactly, and thanks for the confirmation.” 🙂
Perhaps they have no idea of the respect with which Trekkers hold Vulcans? But, as I raise one eyebrow in tribute, I hear Spock say to his human companions: “I fail to see the humor in that.” LOL

Are you saying this was an April Fools joke? And we won’t know until next week? Dude…we got suckered, Kalessin!
    Be blessed,

It is a salutary reminder to do the following things when encountering posts like this one:
    1. Ask what “tag” has Matt placed here – a possible indicator of leg-pulling.
    2. In the case of April 1st “all fool’s day” pranks abound.
    3. Before reacting with a hasty comment check out the background (as I did) by inspecting Southern Cross magazine on-line. After perusing the magazine one must conclude that smoke and mirrors abound on the Archbishop allegedly disliking the Vulcan analogy.
In view of previous conversations I wonder if Matt’s debased humour can be tempted into devising a Dr Who parallel — like contemplating the Daleks and certain kinds of evangelicals, the Movellans and certain kinds of Pentecostals, the Cybermen and so on.

Ah, Phil…you’re so much more thorough…although, not being Aussie, I sometimes feel I’m just beyond the local conversations.
Thanks for clearing up the mystery…hope you don’t get any flack from Matt for it!
I am happy to fall for his prank…what a sad thing to set up something fun and have no one bite 🙂

Te he, it was amusing reading this thread this morning. I had wondered what may develop with my hit and run comment. Oh, and Phil may well be smug but I did get him once upon a time. Difficult it may be, but its not impossible.
