Trinity and Gender

I thought some of you might be interested in a post by John Stackhouse called, Does the Trinity Prove Anything about Gender? Got me thinking about the whole Sophia/Spirit thing too. I think there is lots to chew on here.

The Trinity is a “never-ending story” for me and the chapters have been diverse… brought up Lutheran and taught the catechism; journeyed through Pentecostalism, Baptist-ism, interdenominationalism, Biblical Feminism, Egalitarianism etc. Last year, I went to a conference called ‘Better Together’ which educated me enough to understand what Stackhouse is saying in the article which I enjoyed reading. I must say that I agree that theologising on the Trinity is NOT the most helpful in terms of Christians legislating gender roles! I have discovered some wonderful concepts on the Trinity in relation to Worship, though…

My personal thought on ‘genderism’ is this: God made a ‘person’, then pulled it in half, in order that it could realise it’s incompleteness apart from the other, and thus strive to re-connect. (This being an example of God’s need for a family). As we learn to connect on the human level, we are learning to relate to the Heavenly Father. For the time, one of the party had to take the lead, all to ‘train’, or ‘equip’, these ‘children’ to grow and mature. The whole purpose of the Bible is to raise us up to be no more children(Eph.4:14). Galatians 3:28 tells us that there is “..neither male nor female..” Again, in Matt.22:30 Jesus says, “..for in the ressurection, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in Heaven.” We tend to wrestle about so many issues, rather than seeing them as a means to help us to learn and become who and what we are to be 😉
