Extreme Prophetic?

I was doing some web surfing this morning and came across a woman name Patricia King who seems to be combining … wait for it … Christian fundamentalism with Christian esotericism and New Age speak into a funky right wing blend called “Extreme Prophetic”. What an incredible combination! I first came across a video of her on a blog post about “How to spot a Christian mystic” and I am not sure what is more hilarious, her Bill and Ted-esque “whoas” or the panicky text insertions of her fundamentalist critics. With further investigation I came across her article on Blue Flame where Patricia seems to be doing her best to channel New Age guru Elizabeth Claire Prophet. The irony of all this for me, as mystically inclined Christian, is that both her and her detractors seem to be confusing esotericism for mysticism, in a way that muddies the waters about both. Not see(r)ing much insight here, just a lot of ammaturish teaching about things not really understood. She seems to have Toronto Blessing connections. Any of you heard of her?

I have heard of her and EP, actually about 4 years ago during the height of my charismania days. To be honest, even then she freaked me out. I turned and ran.
I can’t say I know much of the mysticism/esoteric angle, though.

She’s one of Todd Bentley’s friends and supporters… she recently did a mutual “love in” programme with Bentley and Bob Jones.
Some of this Charismania stuff is becoming extremely Gnostic – secret knowledge revealed during visits to the third heaven etc.

After watching the intro of that video (I admit I didn’t watch it all), it reminds me what the draw is (was for me); the power, the idea of being so important that God trusts me with secrets, etc…who doesn’t want that?
And that is what scares me. If that makes any sense. People cast off their brains when they get into this stuff. Very cultish to me, not that I’m any kind of expert on cults.

Nup, thank the Lord! But I have been “loosely” tracking some of the Todd Bentley stuff over the years. I read a good little book a few years ago called ‘Heaven Can’t Wait’ by a Christian journalist who exposed some of the shonky operations of people connected with some very well-known pentecostal type ministries with a specialisation in investigating the testimonies from people who have had ‘near death experiences’. I was a bit surprised to read some material about Bob Jones and his crowd. Since then I have actually been present (invited by some friends) at events where travelling ministers in their network have operated in that X-treme prophetic mode. It was utterly appalling to see the exploitation of the spiritually vulnerable and undiscerning as well as the unbelievable stampede at the resources tables for books and equipment for this specialised field of mystical madness. I learnt a lot… what NOT to do… and what to continue to be equipped to do in order to counter such craziness – with prayer, sound Biblical teaching and loving Christ-emulating acts. So far I haven’t had the guts to overturn their money-changing tables in an act of X-treme prophetic passion!

Matt,
When this post first came up in my Google Reader, I had not heard of her … but I have since heard of her (as others have already mentioned) in connection with the whole Lakeland debacle.
Of course this is disconcerting to me because I am trying to discern how to extract the bits of truth that have been entangled in the whole mystical realm. This kind of stuff really muddies the waters, IMO.

Peggy, my rule of thumb is that the stuff that the apostles emphasized more (eg, spiritual fruit) is the more important and the stuff that they ephasized less (eg, spiritual gifts) is less important.
Stuff that can’t even be found in the New Testament … well irrespective of whether it can be reconciled with it or not it can’t be so core can it? Certainly not as core as they are making it our to be.
The bible does provide instruction on meditation and mysticism, but that instruction is primarily in the form of reflections on who God is and what God has done and how we stand in the light of that. And the litmus test of whether our meditations are worthwhile is not how many dreams, visions and prophecies they prompt but how deeply in faith, hope and love we grow in the process. Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians, about their overemphasis on gifts, which climaxes in chapter 13, is a good guide here i think.

seems to me you guys forgot one important lesson that yeshua came to teach love i see nothing on this page but bashing at least todd(and im not a groupie of either him or ms king) and ms king prays inlove for people and didnt yeshua say “and youll know they are christians by their …what???? oh my goodness its LOVE …..!enuff said have a bless day

Mohammed prayed for people but that doesn’t mean we should except his stuff uncritically.
Maybe we could have approached this more constructively, but are you really saying discernment should be abandoned?

Yes, God loves us enough to gives us revelations through His Spirit (1 Cor 2:9-16)…
I grew up considering Christianity to be a joke; my lifestyle was one of “sex, drugs and rock’n’roll”… until He revealed Himself to me in 2003. No body came to preach to me nor try to convince me as any such previous attempts were far from successul. It was just me, alone, in my room at three o’clock in the morning (SOBER!!!)experiencing the revelation of The living God…
I then surrendered my life to Christ. and over the years He has been an Amazing Master, Father, Teacher, Counsellor…and Friend…yes, friend for He reveals the heart of my Father to me (John 15:15)
If you believe that Christ is real and that He died for you on the cross and rose again, why is it so difficult to believe that He can manifest to you and bring you revelations?
He said in Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to Me. And I will answer you and SHOW YOU GREAT AND MIGHTY THINGS WHICH YOU DO NOT KNOW”
I read comment saying that this is old testament stuff; you surely have not read the book of Acts.
Matt, you are right in saying that we should not overemphasise on gifts. But we cannot completely ignore them either. Because, they are gifts from our Father, given to anyone (believer) who will receive them. To demostrate the exitence and the Power of our God to unbelievers. not to make ourselves superstars on christians tv…
Matthew 10:8 Jesus said “heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons…”
How are we going to do this if we think it’s all a bit “cultish”???
I am nobody special, I have no tv program that I preach to, with people falling on the floor as I breathe (this I used to find quite hilarious before I knew Christ).
But I am special in Christ. And if at my workplace one of my staff members is seek, I lay hands on him/her and pray and I expect healing, and I do get healing!!!
If I am to make a business decision, I pray for direction and He answers me (sometimes in a vision or dream).
This is how we (christians) are called to function. And there is nothing cultish about that.
I humbly invite you to stop putting The One who shed His blood for you into a box; NOTHING is impossible to Him.
If you come to Him,”believing that He is (God). And that He is a REWARDER OF THOSE WHO DILIGENTLY SEEK HIM” (Hebrews 11:6)
He will take you to new levels in your
christian life; levels of true relationship with Him; where you ask HIM questions and He replies to you (sometimes with signs and wonders).
All of you are right in seeking the truth about Patricia King. But I will suggest you approach it biblically. 1 John 4:1-3 will be a good start.
I pray that one day the body of Christ will become indeed one (body). For regardless of denominations, all who confess that Jesus Christ came to flesh and is God serve the same God.
And This God is to much for one to fathom…

Benjamin, if you had read wider you would realize I am not anti-gifts. You can read a story here, from back in 2007, where a troubled man I know was healed of blood poisoning after I friend and I laid hands on him. He was scheduled for an arm amputation, but his dead fingers came back to life and his dying arm was fully healed by the power of God.

I was not criticise Patricia for saying God can heal, in fact, if you read my comments you’ll see I was not saying anything about healing at all. Read it again. My comments were about prophecy.
Now, before anyone says anything, I affirm the prophetic gifts too. But what I am criticizing is her esoteric extremism, her dabbling in New Agish stuff that she clearly only has a minimal understanding about. A true prophet would be more discerning.
