This evening I have been searching out the scriptures for references to personal experience. Here are the references I have found so far.
Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. (Mark 5:29)
When I returned to Jerusalem and was praying at the temple, I fell into a trance (Acts 22:17)
Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. (2 Corinthians 1:9)
If it could, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins. (Hebrews 10:2)
Why am I doing this? To clarify my own theology of Christian experience. If you have any additions to suggest, please do so.
I’m glad you did this. Now if you go to the Old Testament, surely you will find much more. Jeremiah is amazing to me for how much he talks of his feelings. I couldn’t find it just now as I’m in a hotel room and not looking at my personal Bible but he laments about his lot in life and then says that yet he burns inside to express what he must. Some of the Psalms convey personal experience and feeling.
