Have you noticed how, in his letters, faith and love are the measures by which the Apostle Paul judges the health of the churches under his care?
Take, for example, 1 Thessalonians 3:6, where Paul says: “But now that Timothy has come to us from you, and has brought us the good news of your faith and love and reported that you always remember us kindly and long to see us, as we long to see you.”
Paul does not mention bums on seats, budgets, or buildings. It is their faith and love that encourage him. It is quality, not quantity, that moves him.
I would rather belong to a small church overflowing with love than a large church starving for it.
