Reflections on culture, nature, and spirituality from a Christian perspective

How would I answer this question? Personally I don’t see the West taking either the Islamic or Atheist path, despite the intense media focus on them. I see the movement more towards civil religion. On one hand, towards theocratic nationalism (where, for instance, Jesus is confused with the statue of liberty or similar) and on the other, towards apophatic universalism (where Jesus is seen as merely one amongst many manifestations of an unknowable divine, that we can shop amongst). Both seek to resolve the tensions between church and state by domesticating Jesus to suit an external agenda. Jesus is kept on as a mascot but not as master. God is defined by different visions of the state.

One response to “So where do you see the West headed religiously?”
