Reflections on culture, nature, and spirituality from a Christian perspective

BBC news reports “Archbishop Desmond Tutu has called on Africa’s Anglican church to overcome its “obsession” with the issue of gay priests and same-sex marriages. He said they should spend time on more pressing issues in the region … He said: ‘We’ve, it seems to me, been fiddling whilst as it were our Rome was burning.’”

Hmmm, I could call the same for Sydney’s Anglican church. Consumerism, pluralism, spirituality, collapse of Christian credibility and moral authority in the media and public discourse … don’t these issues deserve some attention? I don’t recall Jesus being that sex obsessed.

One of the Anglican blogs that seems to be on lots of people’s blogrolls and recommended as a good blog is “Father Jake stops the world”. I had a look at it recently, and found it was full of obscure comments on internal Anglican infighting. Tutu is right: Anglicans seem to be becoming utterly introverted.
