Scripture is both divinely inspired and human authored. I find it essential we hold these two truths together.
When we focus only on the divine side, we can forget that God spoke through real people in real places and times. We may overlook the language, culture, and circumstances that shaped their words.
When we focus only on the human side, we risk reducing Scripture to little more than a collection of ancient religious writings. We lose sight of the living God that speaks through its pages.
The beauty of Scripture is that it is both. God did not bypass human authors; he worked through them. Their personalities, experiences, and perspectives were not obstacles to inspiration but instruments of it.
Faithful reading therefore requires both humility and attentiveness. We listen carefully to what the human authors were saying, trusting that through their witness God continues to speak today. Neither truth should be sacrificed for the other. The fullness of Scripture is found in holding them together.
