Richard Smoley emailed me today to advise he has started blogging at http://smoley.alivemindmedia.com.
For those unfamiliar with Richard, he was the former editor of Gnosis Magazine, coauthor of “Hidden Wisdom: A Guide to the Western Inner Traditions“, and author of “Inner Christianity: A Guide to the Esoteric Tradition“, “The Essential Nostradamus” and “Forbidden Faith: The Secret History of Gnosticism“. Richard’s latest book, “Conscious Love: Insights from Mystical Christianity”, is scheduled for publication in April 2008
Richard writes:
Well, what can I say? No man can live entirely apart from his times. That’s why I’ve just started a blog, which will cover various topics in spirituality, mysticiam, religion, and philosophy, as well as of course the expected quotient of unwarranted opinions, irrelevant comments, and crazy rants about Our Times. I will do my best to avoid MySpace-type descriptions of when I went out for coffee, how many loads of laundry I did this afternoon, how the cruel world does not appreciate my genius, etc. Anyway, I hope you’ll look in on it, and more importantly, enjoy it.
Richard and I were talking about the possibility of an interview on this blog some months ago before some crises intervened at my end. But I should say that the reason for my interest is that I’ve long held the opinion that Hidden Wisdom is one of the best introductions to the western esoteric traditions that I’ve read, so if you want to learn more, buy it. And while take on Inner Christianity is far more Gnostically inclined than my own I have found his writings on esotericism to be well researched and insightful. I’ll be looking forward to seeing what he has to say online.
For readers of this blog I would recommend Hidden Wisdom as the best book of Richard’s to start with.
