Last supper with a Cylon

While we’re on the subject of alien Christs, how many of you have seen this Battlestar Galactica version of the Last Supper?

As a science fiction fan I can laugh at it, but as a Christian I have to ask – Cylon as God? Could you get more theologically screwed?

The problem with your question is that someone is bound to act in a manner that clearly and painfully answers it in the affirmative.

“Skewed” might be a better choice of words. It suggests that the Son of God is actually the Daughter of God and a machine to boot.
So it presents a feminised version of Christ, possibly to raise some sort of artistic controversy, push a few fundamentalist buttons etc.
Anyway how can you kill a machine, or have it share in a Last Supper with its mates – with something that isn’t alive?

Now if it was Spock I could understand. After eating with the humans, he then said, “Beam me up Scottie – there’s no intelligent life down here!” He then was ascended into the heavens.

I wonder if it’s a species of Docetism myself. The messiah is not fully human but only appears to be. Of course, this rests on the assumption that God is a machine, and a very Mormon influenced one at that. Deus ex machina?

As a fan of the series, I think the choice is appropriate. On the show, the humans are polytheists. The Cylons, on the other hand, believe there is only one God and supreme creator of the universe. The humans consider them pagans for this reason. Not unlike the way the early monotheists, our spiritual ancestors, were considered atheists, in a sense, because they didn’t worship the pantheon of gods but followed only Yahweh.
