Reflections on culture, nature, and spirituality from a Christian perspective

jael-refuting-complementarianism

In a bold statement from her tent, Jael has publicly refuted complementarianism, sending shockwaves through ancient Israel.

“Let me get this straight,” Jael said, leaning casually on her hammer. “Men are supposed to lead, and women are supposed to ‘support’ from the sidelines? Was I ‘supporting’ when I crushed the Sisera’s skull? Seems like I was doing more than holding his water jug.”

Eyewitnesses report that Jael was particularly unimpressed with the notion that women should stick to nurturing’ roles. “Sure, I offered Sisera some milk and a place to rest. And then what? I single-handedly ended a war. If that’s what you call ‘helping,’ then men must need a lot of it.”

She went on to remind the crowd that no one was there to support her. “If I’d waited for Barak to show up, Sisera would still be snoring under my rug. Sometimes the tent peg needs driving, and it’s not just men’s work.”

Asked if this was a subtle rejection of complementarian gender roles, Jael responded by tossing her hammer in the air and catching it with ease. “I don’t do subtle.”
