Reflections on culture, nature, and spirituality from a Christian perspective

Toxic masculinity should be called out whenever it rears its ugly head. But that alone is not enough. Equally important, if not more so, is the task of defining and promoting what healthy masculinity looks like. Societal change rarely occurs without a clear, compelling alternative to replace harmful norms. When people lack viable models for positive behavior, they often revert to what they know, even when they recognize it as flawed. That’s why it’s crucial not only to critique but also to celebrate and amplify examples of healthier, more constructive masculinity. Progress thrives on encouragement and recognition of those who choose to grow.

Personally, when I look for a model of healthy masculinity I look to Jesus of Nazareth, who’s sense of self worth was not centred in his sexual conquests and ability to dominate others, but rather, in his humility, compassion, and unwavering commitment to serving others. He demonstrated strength not through control or aggression, but through self-sacrifice, kindness, and a deep concern for justice. For me, his example redefines masculinity as grounded in love, integrity, and a willingness to uplift those around us. It’s a powerful reminder that true strength lies in vulnerability and the courage to live with purpose and grace.
