Reflections on culture, nature, and spirituality from a Christian perspective

I know the new Guns N’ Roses album, “Chinese Democracy”, is much anticipated, but, Axl Rose as the messiah? That’s getting a bit ridiculous don’t you think? Gives the phrase ‘rock idol’ a whole new spin. Why do we idolize rock stars do you think?

There are historical reasons for the formation of faiths. The ostensible passivity of Christ and the zeal of the missionaries popularized Christianity. Pop idols have a very short life span. Let them be idolized if they can whip up that kind of frenzy!

I am not sure I would describe Christ as passive. Pacifist, sure, but not passive. Jesus did not retreat from confrontational situations, as the cross bears ample witness to. As for pop idols, yeah they’re dust in the wind. What does it say about us when we chase them though. And I can’t help noticing how celebrity chasing is one of the most popular blogging activities.
